The 18th of September is a very special day in Chile. It is the day that Chile celebrates its independence. This year Chile celebrates 200 years of independence! There are flags everywhere. People put flags on their houses and cars. There are flags along the streets and in the stores.
There are special foods that are eaten at the celebrations. Usually there is a big meat barbecue called a parrillada. There are meat or cheese empanadas. For dessert there are alfahores which are cookies with a caramel flavored filling.
At the celebrations everyone dances the national dance called a cueca. Here is a video of some children dancing the cueca.
